President Thabo Mbeki's AIDS Advisory Panel report released 4/4/01

Commented upon by South African Health Minister

A key phrase,"Pending the outcome of further research..."

The offical report on President Thabo Mbeki's Presidential AIDS Advisory Panel was made public on April 4, 2001. South African Minister Dr. Manto Tshabalala-Msimang in her media statement about the panel report stated, "Pending the outcome of further research, the debates of the panel have not provided grounds for Government to depart from its current approach to the HIV/AIDS problem, which is rooted in the premise that HIV causes AIDS..."Though this selection from the minister's statement has been spun by some media to suggest that not much will change as a result of President Mbeki's panel of inquiry into HIV/AIDS and though one can wonder why Dr. Manto Tshbalala-Msimang chose to put things the way that she did, a complete reading of Dr. Tshabalala-Msimang's media statement and a full reading of panel report suggest the importance of the Health Minister's choice of phrase, "Pending the outcome of further research".

Mentioned in Dr. Tshabalala -Msimang's media statement and further described in the full report of President Mbeki's Panel of Inquiry into "HIV/AIDS" are experiments to be funded by the South African government that do indeed test the premise that "HIV causes AIDS". Complete details are yet unannounced regarding tests which are already underway and those which are about to be conducted. Yet among the proposed tests alluded to in the Health Minister's statement and described more fully in the panel report are experiments that will attempt to isolate and view HIV through an electron microscope and tests that will check to see if current HIV tests cross react with antibodies that have nothing to with an alleged HIV. Dr. Manto Tshabalala-Msimang concludes in her comments about the panel report, "The global search for answers to the many complex questions will continue and, we believe, it has been enriched and promoted by the research projects defined through the process of debate in this particular panel."

The now online accessible Presidential AIDS Advisory Panel Report puts on the record for the world to see the full proceedings of President Thabo Mbeki's panel of inquiry into HIV/AIDS that took place in South Africa in two face to face meetings in May and July 2000 and during internet communications that took place between the two meetings. Anyone with access to a computer that can download the 134 page panel report will find a fair presentation of the arguments and recommendations for policy and research from panel members who support the " HIV causes AIDS " hypothesis and those who challenge it. The points of view and recommendations of panel participants like Dr. Helen Gayle of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Professor Malegapuru Makgoba, President of the South African Medical Research Council and others who support the "HIV/AIDS" hypothesis and its accompanying treatment are presented in the panel report via a composite of their contributions made during panel meetings and internet communications amongst panel members. The same is done for those who challenge the "HIV causes AIDS" hypothesis like Australian Biophysicist Eleni Eleopulos and US Molecular Biologist Peter Duesberg.

Beyond reporting the panel presentations of Dr. Gayle of the United States CDC, Dr. Makgoba of the South African MRC and colleagues who support the view articulated daily in the mainstream press that a global "AIDS" epidemic continues to spread via "HIV", the panel report also provides details about the challenges of the "HIV/AIDS" theory from Eleopulos, Duesberg and other panel members little known to people who rely on mainstream media for their information. We learn from the panel report that among those panel members who challenge the "HIV/AIDS" hypothesis, Biophysicist Eleni Eleopulos of the Royal Perth Hospital, Perth, Australia, presented her view to the panel that HIV has never been isolated or proven to exist as a unique retrovirus and that what is called "AIDS" are illnesses caused by oxidative stress rather than a yet to be isolated "HIV". Dr. Peter Duesberg, member of the National Academy of Science, Professor of Molecular Biology, U.C. Berkeley, presented to the panel his view that the many life theatening health problems that we have been taught to call "AIDS" are not caused by "HIV". Biophysicist Eleopulos, Molecular Biologist Duesberg and other scientists and physicians of merit who participated in the panel suggest that rather than blaming a questionable "HIV" for the many conditions that are currently considered "AIDS", we look instead to health risks including malnutrition, lack of clean water, poor sanitary conditions, the consumption of recreational drugs (including amyl nitrites or "poppers" used heavily in the gay community) and the taking of toxic "anti-retroviral" drugs after a diagnosis based on a questionable "HIV test" or after the observation of alleged "AIDS symptoms". These challenges to the "HIV causes AIDS" hypothesis and proposed experiments to verify them are fully described in the panel report as are the points of view and recommendations of panel participants who support the "HIV/AIDS" hypothesis and its accompanying treatment.
